Bro.
Yap Hock Heng, the co-coordinator of the Kalyana Mitra Homes,
was very happy with the image of friendship projected on that
day. He said, "This is a very warm beginning! With the friendship
forged in the Kalyana Mitra Homes, many people will have the opportunity
to learn Buddhism."
The Kalyana Mitra
Home is one of many various beneficial projects of Than Hsiang
Temple. During the previous years, staff members and devotees
alike have diligently carried out welfare and educational activities.
As one can see, the current education system provided by the Universities
and Colleges in Malaysia, lean more towards the knowledge of technical
development, thus ignoring the importance of a more humanities
education. Therefore, Than Hsiang Temple hopes that through the
project of Kalyana Mitra Homes, more university and college students
will be able to benefit from the Dharma teachings.
With the pressure
of earning a higher degree of education, many students will be
living a life of day to day assignments, thinking only of his
or her own self-preservation, with no care for the real world.
We should not need to totally disregard the present living condition
of university and college students, nor should we thinking of
redoing their current lifestyles. However, we hope to provide
the students with another style of living, infused with our loving
care, and thus, from this clean and calm living environment, we
hope to purify and widen the hearts of the students. We also hope
that they will take this opportunity to benefit from the Dharma
by being well prepared in their course work and develop a dignified
personality to dutifully repay the society when they have graduated.
