Buddhist Chinese New Year Celebration

Twenty four Buddhist organizations of the Northern region jointly organize the annual Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday Feb 1st at 2pm at Phor Tay High School. The celebration will begin with the traditional lion dance and followed by a dharma discourse and chanting cum blessing session by the abbot of Than Hsiang temple, Ven Wei Wu.

The Than Hsiang Bayan Baru center will be organizing a series of Chinese New Year(CNY) activities for 2009 namely (i) CNY lamp lighting, (ii) CNY eve chanting, (iii) CNY one day Amitabha Chanting retreat, (iv) CNY caroling and (v) CNY Buddhist celebration. Ninth lunar month vegetarian charity sales

In collaboration with the celebration of Ninth Lunar vegetarian festival from 29/9 till 7/10, Than Hsiang temple, Wan Chin Yuen and Mitra Welfare Center will be organizing vegetarian charity sales , in their bid to encourage more people to be vegetarians while supporting welfare and education enterprises.

Than Hsiang vegetarian moon cake charity sales in aid of IBC fund raising

Than Hsiang temple will be launching its annual charity sales of Vegetarian moon cakes from the 1st day of the Lunar seventh moon (1st August 2008) in aid of fund raising for the International Buddhist college foundation and at the same time to promote the practice of giving vegetarian moon cakes as gifts during the mid-autumn moon cake festival.

Filial Piety Dharma assembly

The seventh lunar month is the month when Chinese observe the tradition of ancestor worship or Ulambana in remembrance of their departed. This is in line with paying respect and inculcating the much-revered virtue of filial piety to one’s ancestors.

Bodhi Nite

Than Hsiang temple in collaboration with Phor Tay High School and several Buddhist oganisations in the Northern Region will be organizing a Bodhi Nite celebration at 7pm in the evening of 17 May 2008 at the Than Hsiang multi-purpose hall. The night will witness the lighting 2552 led candle to commemorate the year of 2552 of the Buddhist calendar . Ven Wei Wu would like to appeal to all Buddhists to join in the celebration of this memorable and joyous occasion . Admission is free and participants are encouraged to join in the lamp lighting blessing ceremony .
