The Lunar New Year is the most significant festival for ethnic Chinese around the world, wherever they come from. The Chinese New Year celebration in Tham Wah Temple was a very jubilant occasion mainly because this time Sangha members as well as other members from every branch took a break from work to get together as one big family.
The celebration started with Buddha name recitation followed by a short teaching by Ven Wei Wu the Abbot. The venerable urged those present to take a more active part in looking after our environment. The venerable said that the earthquake off Sumatra and the subsequent tsunami on December 26 th was the result of our common karma in destroying the environment.
Other activities planned for the celebration included an ang-pow offering session and other entertainment programmes.
The celebration ended with a sumptuous lunch which included many traditional new year goodies.
