As a part of Than Hsiang Temple Social Responsibilities program, a blood donation campaign was

organized by Than Hsiang Mitra Welfare Association Penang on 23rd March 2013. Our co-organizer,

the Penang General Hospital sent 14 members of the staff to Than Hsiang Temple at 9am to set up

counters and beds for the blood donation drive in the Great Compassion Hall at the ground floor.

10 Mitra Welfare volunteers turned up at 8.30am to support this noble event. The whole procedure

being carried out in a well disciplined manner throughout the event. Some of the volunteers also

donated blood during their duty hour.

We targeted collection of 50 bags of blood, though only 46 bags were eventually

collected from 64 registered donors.

The gift of life is everyone's to give. The General Hospital also set up an organ donation counter.

Those who were keen to pledge their organs and tissues just had to fill up Donor Pledger Form.

The donation process began by filling up a simple pre numbered registration form

prepared by Than Hsiang Mitra Welfare Group. Staff members of the General Hospital

would then sign the potential donor in and go over basic eligibility and donation

information before checking their temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hemoglobin

level present in a sample of blood.

After all that was done, donors were set up to donate blood and after about 10 to 15 minutes,

the whole part of blood donation process was considered over.

All those who donated blood were given milo and curry puffs before leaving the temple.

The campaign ended at 2pm sharp. This event would not have been a success without

the generous support of Mitra Welfare volunteers' team and General Hospital staff.

Our next Blood Donation campaign will be held on 9th November 2013, from 9.30am to 2pm.
