On a beautiful sunny Saturday on 2nd March 2013, Than Hsiang welfare group

volunteers gathered again to pay their yearly visit to Bethel Hill Old Folk's Home

located at Kuala Nerang, Kedah, a place where they share life, love, and laughter

with the residents.

By 9am, a chartered bus from Than Hsiang Penang with 30 volunteers already

arrived at the nursing home, and began rearranging the chairs for the hair

cutting/trimming session. With the help of the nursing home staff, 11 residents

came from their rooms to join us. Volunteers greeted the residents with smiles

and helped them get settled in the allocted seat.

Sister Bee Hong and Sister Mei Er have been organizing this since last 2 years.

Today, we had new volunteers taking up the various roles for a change .

Everyone was very excited to welcome new volunteers who participated in the

nursing home visit for the first time. We are very happy to witness the vitality of

people who are interested in community service and wellbeing.

After the hair cutting session, 11 residents were sitting in the front row and Sister

Mei Er gave a brief introduction of Than Hsiang's mission , Wei Wu Shifu's message

and highlights of latest Welfare volunteer activities. The program started with Chinese

New Year songs and many residents also tried to sign along. What a moving scene!

Later,  a sing-along segment was led by Sister Teik Xin . We were so happy to see

the enthusiastic response from everyone. It is a wonderful feeling of being a member

of a small cozy and loving world! We had such a good time and the laughers staying

on our minds for a long time!

Some volunteers distributed Ang Pow packetsto the residents before having delicious lunch at the

canteen.  Than Hsiang Mitra Welfare staff , Sister Lee Ting spoon feeding an old folk who was unable

to eat by herself ! Some volunteers were so dedicated – they asked for nothing in return, but received

bountiful joy and a sense of fulfillment.  Finally, we had to say " Good bye " and give love and caring

hugs to the residents. This  reminds us that if everyone treats others with love, and handles things with

open sincerity, life will be filled with truth, kindness, and beauty.
