Than Hsiang Wan Chin Yuen (WELFARE OLD FOLK HOME) celebrated its 15th anniversary on 26th April 2009 (Sunday) and a vegetarian fair was held from 9am till 3pm on the same day at the temple’s premise to raise fund for its annual expenses.
Wan Chin Yuen is situated at Than Hsiang Temple. Since 1994, we have been providing quality services to several hundred of old folks such as giving shelter, food health care and spiritual comfort. In 2008, the center was registered and as a welfare old folk home providing services free of charge. This meaningful task require your generous support to meet our growing expenditure. The expenses for the home has now soar to RM 400,000 annually.
We need your continuous support and donation to sustain our operation successfully. Our target for the fund is RM 40,000.00.

Besides Raising fund to meet its annual expenditure, Wan Chin Yuen also hopes to bring to the attention of public the need for concern and caring for the old folks in our society.

In commemoration of the 15th anniversary, the following programmes had been lined for the celebration.

1. Ceremony for “filial to kinsmen and respect for the elderly” was staged on the day of celebration.
Donors of RM 200 and above were invited as sponsors to participate in the above ceremony .

2. Vegetarian food fair at Than Hsiang Temple.

In his opening speech, Ven Wei , the founder of WCY and abbot of Than Hsiang Temple thanked the press media, venerable sangha members, sponsors, donors, Than Hsiang staff, volunteers and the members of organising committee for their contribution in the anniversary celebration and food fair. He reported that there are 50 inmates for Than Hsiang WCY , 20 in the KL branch and 10 in the Kajang branch. Than Hsiang is now expanding its old folk homes into Housing estate, with its newest addition being the SP old folk home which had been situated just next to the SP kindergarten, he added. .Ven. also emphasized the importance of cultivating the virtues of filial piety by narrating a story of his master, the late Ven. Bo Yuan who used to remind those who visited him to always be filial to their parents and respect their elder.
The organizing chairman Mr. Chan Kian Teong appealed to the public to continue supporting the old folk home especially since its conversion into a free welfare home in 2008.

Total number of food stalls participated was 123 selling an assortment of delicious dishes , drinks , delicacies and handy crafts sponsored by various generous organization. A drive-in stall had also been set up to facilitate those unable to find parking space.
The food fair was a success as evidenced by the endless stream of crowd converging at the fair from morning till around 3pm.
