Most Venerable Wei Wu expressed his appreciation to everyone for their kind presence to support 40th years Anniversary at this dinner. Venerable Wei Wu was particularly glad to see many seniors’ members present during that anniversary.
Most Venerable Wei Wu made a special mention of the groundbreaking ceremony for the very first Than Hsiang temple building, where Tan. Sri. Koh Tsu Koon represented Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu. Therefore, Venerable Wei Wu thanked him for his kind presence at the 40th anniversary Gratitude night.
Most Venerable Wei Wu mentioned that to ensure the future healthy growth of the Than Hsiang Organisation, three councils were established many years ago. First, there is the Council of Elders, consisting of retired members, currently mainly monastic members and core of the Organisation. The monastic Sangha also has a council of five members. During elections, the members with the most votes remain on the council and become the abbot.
Most Venerable Wei Wu also mentioned the establishment of the Lay Sangha Council, comprising a chairman and four members, which oversees the secular affairs of the organisation. For example, all the managers report to the chairman of the Lay Sangha Council.Both the Monastic Council and the Lay Sangha Council have already gone through one round of elections and have been operating for a number of years.
Most Venerable Wei Wu also mentioned that they are currently revising the regulations and conducting reviews, retaining what is good and strengthening areas that need improvement. In the upcoming first of June, the Monastic Sangha Council will have its second-round election of five members and choose the new abbot. Meanwhile, the lay Sangha Council will hold its election in the year 2027.
Most Venerable Wei Wu reported that the first phase of the Tanjung Malim Xiang Yun monastery has been completed. In the meantime, they are still waiting for the authorities’ Occupancy Certificate (OC) to proceed with various related activities.
Most Venerable Wei Wu expressed his vision and plan to expand the Than Hsiang’s activities into the Indochina Countries, beside Thailand had been laid. Venerable Wei Wu mentioned the advantage of having many IBC graduates from these countries. If they are willing, Venerable Wei Wu stated he would be happy to help some of these graduates who are interested to introducing some of the activities that have been successfully carried out in Malaysia and Thailand. Several years ago, a very close relationship was established with a Buddhist School and college in Mandalay, Myanmar. Recently, their buildings were damaged during the earthquake there. So, we have raised close to ninety thousand ringgits to help this Buddhist school and college to rebuild the damages.
Lastly, Most Venerable Wei Wu expressed his appreciation to all members of the organising committee for the hard work they put into organising 40th Anniversary dinner.
