On May 22, 2026, Than Hsiang Kindergarten (Headquarters) and Than Hsiang Kindergarten (Sungai Ara Branch) gathered at the Great Compassion Hall of Than Hsiang Temple to hold the Buddha Bathing Ceremony.

For the children, this day was not only an outdoor learning session but also an opportunity to further understand and experience the meaning of Vesak Day. Early in the morning, teachers and children arrived at the temple, had breakfast, and then assembled in the Great Compassion Hall. The ceremony officially began at 9:00 a.m., led by Abbot Venerable Zhen Sheng and other Sangha members.

Venerable Zhen Sheng first delivered a compassionate Dharma talk. Venerable used simple and accessible language to explain to the children the significance of Vesak, the key to the Buddha’s enlightenment, how to practice Buddhism in daily life, and the aspirations of Vesak. Venerable emphasized that Vesak is not only a commemoration of the Buddha but also a reminder that every sentient being has a seed of awakening within. By cultivating mindfulness, practicing compassion, and following the teachings, one can deepen practice, attain awakening, and benefit all beings. The children listened attentively, accompanied by parents and teachers.

After the Dharma talk, the Sangha members led the assembly in chanting Incense Praise, three recitations of “Namo Shakyamuni Buddha,” and the Heart Sutra. The ceremony then entered the Buddha Bathing segment. The Sangha members guided the assembly in reciting the Buddha Bathing verse:

“I now sincerely bathe all the Tathagatas, who possess pure wisdom, virtues, and merits. May sentient beings in this world of five defilements leave behind defilements and realize the pure Dharma-body.”

Following this, Abbot Venerable Zhen Sheng led the children, teachers, and parents in bathing the Buddha. Through the ritual, the children learned the proper way to bathe the Buddha and cultivated reverence, filling the atmosphere with joy and delight.

Finally, the Sangha members guided the assembly in the Three Refuges and Dedication of Merit. The Buddha Bathing Ceremony concluded successfully.
