Registration for the 100 Million Mani Mantra Recitation Dharma Assembly began at 9.00am on Saturday, 10 December 2005. A total of 171 persons had signed up as Full Session Participants and 368 had signed up as Part Session Participants at the end of registration at 1.30pm. Full Session Participants had to participate in all the five sessions of chanting per day for nine days. Part Session Participants, as the name implies, could attend one or more sessions on any one or more days.

At 2.00pm that afternoon, Drubwang Konchok Norbu Rinpoche was invited to the Main Shrine Hall. His Eminence chanted some prayers in blessing the Dharma Assembly. Venerable Zhen Xin and Bro. Hong Yew Chye then informed the Assembly of the rules and regulations to be observed during the entire nine days of Recitation. Among the rules was that participants have to observe the Five Precepts of not killing, not taking what is not given, not lying, no sexual misconduct, and no imbibing of intoxicants. The participants were encouraged not to wear jewellery, makeup, perfume or scented powder. No hand phones and pagers were allowed nor the smoking of cigarettes.

The participants had to take only vegetarian food for the whole nine days and observe silence at all times. Idle talk was not allowed; only verbal recitation of the six-syllable Mani Mantra was encouraged. This was to develop within the individual the deepest qualities of mindfulness, compassion and peace.

Attendance was taken at every session regardless of the category of the participants. This was to facilitate the counting of the Mani Mantra, as it was a strict recitation Dharma Assembly. A total of 68,782,846 Mani Mantra was recorded for the total of the sessions. While the target of 100 Million Mani Mantra Recitation was not achieved, it was a record thus far for the Dharma Assembly held in Penang.

On the last day, 18 December 2005, at 10.00am, Drubwang Rinpoche performed a blessing service for the departed at the front of the Great Compassion Hall. An hour later, the Mahayana Tradition of blessing was performed and the merits accrued were transferred to the departed.

Late that night after the end of the last Recitation Session, Drubwang Rinpoche performed a blessing service for all present. A large crowd had gathered for this blessing service and since Rinpoche blessed everyone individually, the blessing service stretched far into the night.
