20th anniversary of metta free clinic

“ Metta Free clinic will extend its operation to southern Thailand in respond to the local needs and demands,” disclosed Ven. Wei Wu in his speech of thanks during the above anniversary celebration at Than Hsiang’s multi-purpose on 9th March 2008. Apart from the main center at Than Hsiang temple, Metta free clinic also operates its branches and mobile units in Penang Island, Seberang Jaya and Bandar Puteri Jaya in Suingai Petani.
The event was attended by about 200 guests and patrons . Ven. also reminisced about the early days when the metta clinic was first formed 22 years ago in a rental house in Bayan Baru. He further reiterated that the Buddha had always stressed on the great merits to be gained by caring for the sick and disabled during his discourses to his disciples and in fact the Buddha had personally taking care of sick monks.

To better inform the public on the importance of health care, Than Hsiang metta clinic will be oganising several health-care talks in the near future in promoting health-care education and awareness.

Ven. also touched on the aftermath of the 12th generation election which brought about a transformed political landscape. He advised the people to remain calm and not to listen to unfounded rumours and hope the new political era will bring peace ,security and prosperity to the citizens of Malaysia.

Earlier on, the organizing chairman Bro. Koay Chee Keong, in his opening speech thanked all present for their supports. Bro. Goh Ah Bah , the president of the clinic , briefed on the year’s activities and that the clinic will soon upgrade the clinic management and medical practice. Ven Kai Ling Shi representing Malaysian Buddhist Association congratulated the clinic for its contribution and mentioned the importance of the herb-based Chinese medicine which has gained acceptance and recognition world wide.

The lamp-lighting ceremony was led by Ven Wei Wu with more than a hundred participating patrons stepping on to the stage in batches .

The audience were also entertained with songs and dance performances by local artistes before adjourned for a scrumptious buffer lunch at 11.45am .
