On Friday 27th April 2012, Friday Buddhist Class of Than Hsiang Jing Yuan held the second Buddhist Hymns Competition with an aim to promote interests towards Buddhist hymns among the children. In addition to that, it is hoped that the children will be exposed to more Buddhist hymns and establish a positive outlook on life by learning the ethical and moral values conveyed in the songs.

In total, 18 children took part in the competition.10 children were from the junior group while 8 children were from the senior group. Some children were well prepared and thus had excellent performance. Due to tension, some forgot the lyrics. One participant even had to leave the stage without performing because of a sudden stage fright.

After the competition, the children shared what they had learned from the Buddhist hymns.

It was not only a golden opportunity for the children to exhibit their singing talent but also a stimulant to pondering over the messages conveyed in the lyrics.

The event was ended with everybody singing joyfully a Chinese song, entitled “A Blissful Face”. Finally, congratulations to the winners. We hope that all will keep up their hard work and put up an even better performance next year.

May you be well and peaceful. Amituofo!
