Wan Ching Yuen, Sungai Petani celebrated its 3rd anniversary at Than Hsiang Jing Yuan, Sungai Petani on 30th June 2012. Venerable Zhen Xin and Sister Gaik Ean briefed the volunteers on their respective duties after everybody had enjoyed a delicious and nutritious breakfast prepared by dedicated kitchen helpers early in the morning.

The grand celebration started off at 9 a.m. with a video presentation introducing the Wan Ching Yuen Senior Citizens’ Home, Sungai Petani. This was followed by the singing of ‘Buddha Eulogy’ after which Venerable Zhen Ru and Brother Chen You De, chairman of the organizing committee delivered their speeches. Venerable Zhen Ru urged all attendees to join the Than Hsiang family to work hand in hand for the conviction of creating an environment for "The Young to Learn, The Strong and Healthy to Serve, The Aged and Sick to be Cared For, The Departed to Find Spiritual Destination."

A cake cutting ceremony was held around 9.35 a.m. Sponsors for the event were then invited on stage for a group photograph taken before they presented souvenirs to senior citizens from various homes. After that guests were entertained with a series of performances including group singing, zither solo, erhu (Chinese 2-string fiddle) ensemble performance and children’s dancing.

The second part of the entertainment program continued while lunch was served at 11 a.m. The celebration came to an end around noon with a chorus entitled “Song of Sungai Petani Wan Ching Yuen”. All volunteers had their meal after the event endedThey helped to clear and clean the surroundings after lunch. These dedicated volunteers included students and teachers from the Sultan Abdul Halim Teachers’ Institute in Ipoh.
