The 2010 Mahasanghikadana in conjunction with the AGM of The Malaysian Sangha Council was held at the main hall of Phor Tay High School on 20th June.

The aim for holding the Annual Mahasanghikadana is to pool the donations of the public to support and promote the welfare of the Sangha members. The proceeds collected from donations will be channelled towards the financing of the education of Sangha communities for their studies in Malaysian Buddhist Institute and International Buddhist College.

The Mahasanghikadana began at 7.30am with the Pindapatta, (offering of alms-food ceremony) in the hall. The participating crowd began to swell at about 10am. The devotees stood and held their palms together in respect to welcome the arrival of the Sangha members.

In his opening speech, YB Mr. Ooi Han Wei, representing The Chief Minister stressed on the importance of Dharma in purifying our mind and establishing moral discipline. He advised that we should inculcate Dharma in our daily activities as a means of spiritual cultivation. He was grateful that the event had given him the opportunity to extend his reverence to the noble Sangha community. He wished all present be bestowed with the blessings of Dharma bliss, accumulation of merits and attainment of wisdom before ending his speech.

The participants then witnessed the lamp lighting ceremony by the sponsors and YB. This was followed by chanting by Sangha members of The Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions.
After the grand offering to the Buddha, the much awaited Mahasanghikadana for 2010 began before noon. Requisites were presented to all Sangha members by devotees at 12.30pm after the Sangha members had partaken the food offered.

The devotees received Dharma teachings from Ven. Boontam in English and Ven. Boon Kean in Chinese. The 2010 Mahasanghikadana was brought to a successful close when the devotees joined the Sangha members in the transference of merits at 12.45pm.
