Twenty four Buddhist organizations of the Northern region jointly organize the annual Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday Feb 1st at 2pm at Phor Tay High School. The celebration will begin with the traditional lion dance and followed by a dharma discourse and chanting cum blessing session by the abbot of Than Hsiang temple, Ven Wei Wu.
Besides presentation of Chinese New Year celebration programmes, a lamp-lighting ceremony has been arranged for that day. The choice of this year’s venue will enable all the participants to witness a new high building planned and funded by Buddhists. The opening of school is the fruition of a dream of the local Chinese resident to have a National Type High School in this part of the Island. All the proceeds collected from the celebration go to the school’s building fund.
The celebration will feature dances by the Kulim Buddhist Association, Phor Tay High School, Seberang Perai Tengah Buddhist Association and Penang Buddhist Study Group.
Choirs and solos will be presented by the Silver Jubillee Senior Citizens and Than Hsiang
Choir group. Taman Lip sin Qi Gong class will give a demonstration of Tai Chi martial art plus a solo performance of Chinese musical instrument “ Gu Zen”. Further, the organizer has once again invited the famous troupe” the Chakora” to enthrall the crowd with evergreen popular Chinese New Year songs.
The co-organisers of this year celebration are the various Buddhist organizations of the Northern region of Peninsula Malaysia.
