10 December 2005 marked an important day in the calendar of Than Hsiang Zang Yuan. At 10.00am in the morning, Venerable Wei Wu was at the Centre together with His Eminence, Drubwang Konchok Norbu Rinpoche., three other Rinpoches, seven Lamas and all the Venerables from Than Hsiang Temple.

The Opening Ceremony started with His Eminence, Drubwang Rinpoche leading the chanting with the other Rinpoches and Lamas in Tibetan. This was followed by the Mahayana Tradition blessing and chanting led by Venerable Wei Wu.

After the Opening Ceremony, Venerable Wei Wu told the people who gathered there that the Mitra Welfare Centre had been providing counseling services through the telephone and on a face-to-face basis besides organizing dharma talks and visiting the poor and unfortunate. The Mitra Welfare Centre had been operating for ten years at the Than Hsiang Temple premises and now that they could stand on their own, it was time for them to have a place of their own.

The new home of the Mitra Welfare Centre is located at a three-story shop-house in Sungai Ara. The Centre occupied the two top stories; the first floor being utilized as a prayer hall for about eighty people and the second floor for the Centre's welfare activities.

Venerable Wei Wu informed that the main aim of the Mitra Welfare Centre in Sungai Ara is to spread the true teachings of the Buddha, so Pure Land chanting sessions would be held there later. The first activity to be organized would be a Course on the Lamrin. This Course would be in Mandarin and would consist of twelve lessons to be taught over two weekends, namely 24 - 25 December 2005 and 31 December 2005 - 1 st January 2006. Enrolment to this course would be free.

The residents in Sungai Ara and surrounding areas were encouraged to make full use of the Mitra Welfare Centre for their spiritual development.
