About 120 people from Than Hsiang Temple including members from the Youth Section and the Sunday Dharma School and devotees participated in the Wesak Day Float Procession organised by the Penang Wesak Celebration Committee on 5th May 2012.
Around 4 p.m. Venerable Zhen Xin held a briefing for float procession participants from Than Hsiang Temple at the Great Compassion Hall. Venerable Zhen Xin reminded the participants to maintain a good image as they would be representing not only Than Hsiang Temple but also Buddhism in the float procession. Venerable Zhen Xin urged them to bring out the spirit of faith, joy, gratitude and Bodhi Mind.
After the briefing, 3 buses loaded with participants set off and headed towards Malaysian Buddhist Association in Burmah Road, Penang.
The float procession started at the Association around 6 p.m. The contingent which included 39 floats and members from 40 Buddhist organisations comprised 10,000 people.
During the float procession, most devotees held flowers and five-colored Buddhist flags as a sign to welcome the Buddha statue. Some of them even chanted the name of Sakyamuni Buddha during the procession.
