Than Hsiang Temple Filial Piety Dharma Assembly
(4-9-2023 – 10-9-2023)

Than Hsiang temple started the Filial Piety Dharma Assembly on 4th September 2023 (twentieth day of the seventh month) in the hall on the fifth floor. There were lamp-lighting for the devotees to seek blessings for their living parents and relatives as well as penitent service as a remembrance to the departed parents, ancestors and karmic creditors. The devotees gave donation on “as your wish” basis. All proceeds will be credited into the Than Hsiang Educational Fund.

On the first day (4-9-2023) of the dharma assembly, at 7.30pm all the devotees gathered in the hall on the fifth floor. After the cleansing ceremony, there were Amitabha Sutra chanting and dharma sharing.

Subsequently every morning at 11 o’clock, chanting for the lamp-lighting and penitent service were carried out in the hall on the fifth floor. The merits accrued were transferred for the well-being of the nation and the devotees. At 8pm every night there were Amitabha Sutra chanting and dharma sharing in the “dabei dian”.

On the Dharma Assembly Day (10-9-2023), chanting practice started at 9 am in the hall on the fifth floor, followed by noon offering to the Buddhas and transference of merits for the lamp-lighting and penitent service. Lunch was provided at 12 noon. The three sessions of the Pure Land chanting started at 1pm. It was also broadcasted live through YouTube simultaneously.

About five hundred participants were guided by the volunteers into the hall. Venerable Zhen Ru led the participants to chant the Pure Land Sutra. He also gave dharma talks on the significance of the Filial Piety Dharma Assembly and the three sessions of Pure Land Sutra as a way to practise Pure Land Buddhism. It is to advise the devotees to recite the Buddha’s name to guide the departed beings to have Faith and aspiration in Amitabha Buddha to be reborn in the Western Pure Land.

After the dharma sharing session, the public was invited to have tea at the canteen. Session 2 began at 4pm and the assembly ended fruitfully at 6pm.
