August 6, 2024, which is the 3rd day of the 7th lunar month, marks the 26th anniversary of the passing of Elder Xiu Jing. Elder Xiu Jing was the preceptor of Master Wei Wu, the founder of the Than Hsiang Temple. The monks of Than Hsiang Temple, led by Master Wei Wu, recited a sutra in memory of the venerable monk at 10 a.m. in the Great Compassion Hall. This was followed by offerings at the Buddha's altar, after which they moved to the ancestral hall to transfer the merits in front of Elder Xiu Jing's memorial tablet.
Although Master Xiu Jing has been gone for 26 years, his teachings on practicing the Four Immeasurables—loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity—remain deeply ingrained in our hearts. Through these teachings, he greatly promoted the spirit of boundless love in Buddhism and hoped people would practice it in their daily lives. He earnestly wished that all beings could be free from suffering and attain happiness, while also receiving boundless blessings.
The ceremony concluded at 11 a.m. with the respectful recitation and prayers by the attendees.
