The seventh lunar month is the Auspicious Filial Piety Month. To promote the Buddhist Ullambana Festival and actively carry forward the Chinese spirit of honoring ancestors and the virtues of gratitude and repayment, Than Hsiang Temple initiated the "Filial Piety Dharma Assembly" on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

The assembly involved a collective practice of the "Three Periods of Mindfulness Ritual" to dedicate merit to ancestors. It was conducted both online and on-site, with hundreds of Buddhists taking the opportunity to participate.

At the event, there were electronic plaques for the "Longevity Altar" and the "Pure Land Altar." The yellow plaques were for dedicating sutra recitations and transcendence for deceased parents and ancestors up to seven generations, while the red plaques were for lighting lamps and praying for blessings and the removal of obstacles for living parents.

Ven. Zhen Ru shared teachings, mentioning that the late Ven. Sheng yan Fashi emphasized that the "Three Periods of Mindfulness Ritual" uses the power of the Dharma to invite wandering spirits to the Dharma assembly, where they can listen to teachings, recite sutras, chant the Buddha's name, repent, make vows, and take refuge in the Triple Gem. Through this, they are offered Dharma as a form of giving, helping them find peace and be reborn in the Pure Land. Ven. Zhen Ru also explained the essence of the "Three Periods of Mindfulness Ritual" and clarified the true meaning of the Ullambana Festival.

The Dharma assembly concluded successfully at 6:10 PM.

Than Hsiang Temple sincerely thanks all the volunteer groups and Bodhisattva staff members for their support, which made the assembly possible.

Wishing everyone blessings, health, the removal of karmic obstacles, and the growth of good roots.
