A team of dental health care personnel from the Bayan Baru Dental Clinic came to Than Hsiang on the morning of 13 December 2005. This team, headed by Dr. Asha, consisted of three dental nurses and three dental assistants. They set up an educational display on dental health near the front counter and their mobile clinic at one end of the canteen area.

The purpose of this dental team's visit was to screen and check the dental health of the inmates of Wan Ching Yuan. They would do extractions if found to be necessary. Most of the inmates were found to have full upper and lower dentures. There were some who had decayed teeth but refused to have their teeth extracted for one reason or another. Dr. Asha was kind enough not to insist on extracting their teeth, but was concerned about their lack of dental health due to their decayed teeth.

Dr. Asha and her team took more than two hours to check every inmate of Wan Ching Yuan. According to Dr. Asha, the mobile dental clinic would come annually to check on the dental health of the inmates. Dr. Asha and her team had performed a great service to the old folks of Wan Ching Yuan and they have our deep gratitude. We look forward to their visit next year.
