2025 Buddha’s Joyful Day

On September 6, 2025, corresponding to the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, Than Hsiang Temple in Penang held the Ullambana Dharma Assembly at the Main Shrine Hall on the sixth floor, in observance of the Buddha’s Joyful Day. In the early morning, many devotees came early to the temple to make offerings, such as lighting the led candles to the Buddha. The atmosphere was serene and solemn.

The Malaysian Buddhist Sangha Association held its Annual General Meeting on August 31, 2025 , at the ground floor small hall of Than Hsiang Temple in Penang. Following the meeting, lunch dana was offered to all annual members.

Firstly, It began with Theravada monks leading the chanting of the Offering Verses, followed by Mahayana monk’s Venerable Zhen Ru continuing to lead the chanting. At the same time, Lay devotees knelt together devoted and sincere in chanting, offering their hearts and intentions to the Triple Gem. The atmosphere was solemn and dignified.

Bagan, formerly Pagan, is an ancient city situated in the Mandalay region of Myanmar, along the Ayeyarwady River. From the 9th to 13th centuries, it served as the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan. In 2019, Bagan was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Memorial prayer service for the late Ven. Siew Chin

On August 25th (3rd day of the 7th lunar month), Than Hsiang temple held a Noon Offering ceremony and chanting of the Amitabha Sutra to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the memorial prayer service for the late Venerable Siew Chin.

At around 10 a.m., in the Great Compassion Hall , the chanting of Amitabha Sutra was led by Most Venerable Wei Wu, New Abbot Venerable Zhen Sheng and other Sangha members. This was followed by the Noon Offering ceremony.

This popular sūtra is taken from the Perfection of Wisdom text of the Mahāyāna tradition.

The short version contains the entire meaning of the longer sūtra - 16 sentences in English, 260 characters in Chinese, and 300 words in Sanskrit.

Than Hsiang Lay Sangha Gathering (27-7-2025)

On 27 July 2025, the Than Hsiang Lay Sangha members held a gathering at Sungai Petani Than Hsiang Jing Yuan. The event took place from 9:30 AM to 1 PM, attended by 35 members.

The gathering officially began at 9:30 AM with an opening speech by emcee Bro Leon Tong, who shared that this was a special occasion—it marked the first time the gathering was held in Sungai Petani. He then introduced the agenda, highlighting a celebratory cake-cutting and group photo session for the 16th anniversary of Sungai Petani Than Hsiang Jing Yuan.

TaijiQuan Batch #10 Recruitment – 27 July 2025

ThanHsiang Temple’s TaijiQuan class welcomed a strong response for its new intake, Batch #10, which officially began on 27 July 2025. A total of 69 individuals registered on the first day, with several more expected to join in the coming week, as they were unable to attend the initial session.

Notably, over 95% of the new participants are aged 50 and above, and all are new to TaijiQuan—except for one experienced practitioner with over 20 years of TaijiQuan training.

In early Buddhist scriptures, the four ways of winning people were mentioned, and these were used by kings to please their subjects.

Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day (Lunar June 19th)

To commemorate the auspicious Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva's Enlightenment Day, Than Hsiang Temple held a series of solemn Buddhist activities at the Great Compassion Hall on the 19th day of the 6th lunar month. These activities were the Noon Offering, Three Refuges and Five Precepts transmission ceremony, and an on-site cultivation of the Universal Gateway Sūtra《普门品》.
