There are many dos and don’ts in folk beliefs that are not orthodox Buddhism, but which are often mistakenly considered Buddhist taboos.

For instance:

Taboo: not recommended to clean out the incense burner daily. As an outcome:joss stick residue and ashes look messy and increase risk of fire.

To commemorate the birthday of Bodhisattva Avalokitasvara (Guanyin), THT conducted the refuge taking and precepts transmission ceremony at DaBei Dian on 6th August,2023 (Sunday) at 2pm . Ten devotees took part in the ceremony.

Venerable Zhen Ru hosted the ceremony by giving a dhamma talk on the significance of taking refuge in the three jewels and receiving the 5 precepts.
After the ceremony, Venerable Zhen Ru issued the refuge and precepts taking certificates to the participants.

2023 M.B.S.A. International Maha Sanghika Dana

The M.B.S.A. International Maha Sanghika Dana which was held on 16th July 2023 in Penang and Kuala Lumpur simultaneously had presented two dana cheques to the Malaysian Buddhist Institute and International Buddhist College respectively as an endowment to support sangha education. The dana cheque was presented by the vice-chairman of M.B.S.A, Dato’ Lim Gim Hin to Ven Yan Jing from the Malaysian Buddhist Institute. While Ven Zhen Ru represented the International Buddhist College to receive the dana cheque from the chairman of M.B.S.A, Mr Yew Cheng Keat.

With these as the foundation, develop renunciation to get out of samsara by practicing different Buddha’s teaching such as following the 4 Noble Truth to gain liberation as an arahant. The pacceka buddha attained liberation through his own effort to gain self-enlightenment.

Applications are now open to pursue courses at International Buddhist College (IBC) for the Academic Year 2022/2023 which will commence in July 2022. The programs offered are in English and Chinese mediums. Applications will close on May 31, 2022.

The Covid-19 Corona Virus pandemic is not over yet; public places including places of worship where crowd gathering is involved are still subject to strict regulations of the Movement Control Order imposed by the authority to curb the spread of the pandemic. All group activities must comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) stipulated by the government. It was under such circumstances that Than Hsiang Temple held its Filial Piety Dharma Assembly 2020 as scheduled.

International Buddhist College (IBC) held 11th Convocation

The International Buddhist College (IBC) held its 11th Convocation on 23 September 2018. The ceremony started with the Triple Gem Eulogy followed by the offering of light to the Triple Gem.
Conferment of degrees and certificates to graduands took place after the Council Chairman, the Most Venerable Dr Wei Wu and the Rector, Professor Dr Charles Willemen delivered their speeches. Dr Fa Qing, Director of Information Technology and Library addressed the graduates with words of encouragement on behalf of the faculty.

It is also celebrated among the Vietnamese, Japanese and Koreans. It is the second most important festival after the Chinese New Year Celebration to the Chinese people. In ancient China, moon cakes were a kind of offering to the moon. Over time, these special cakes have become the most popular food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Chinese people believe that the full moon is a symbol of peace, prosperity and family reunion.
