The Covid-19 Corona Virus pandemic is not over yet; public places including places of worship where crowd gathering is involved are still subject to strict regulations of the Movement Control Order imposed by the authority to curb the spread of the pandemic. All group activities must comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) stipulated by the government. It was under such circumstances that Than Hsiang Temple held its Filial Piety Dharma Assembly 2020 as scheduled.

International Buddhist College (IBC) held 11th Convocation

The International Buddhist College (IBC) held its 11th Convocation on 23 September 2018. The ceremony started with the Triple Gem Eulogy followed by the offering of light to the Triple Gem.
Conferment of degrees and certificates to graduands took place after the Council Chairman, the Most Venerable Dr Wei Wu and the Rector, Professor Dr Charles Willemen delivered their speeches. Dr Fa Qing, Director of Information Technology and Library addressed the graduates with words of encouragement on behalf of the faculty.

IBC Celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival, popularly known as the Moon Cake Festival, is widely celebrated among the Chinese communities throughout the world. It is also celebrated among the Vietnamese, Japanese and Koreans. It is the second most important festival after the Chinese New Year Celebration to the Chinese people. In ancient China, moon cakes were a kind of offering to the moon. Over time, these special cakes have become the most popular food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Chinese people believe that the full moon is a symbol of peace, prosperity and family reunion.

Kathina (Robe Offering) Ceremony 2017

International Buddhist College celebrated Kathina (Robe Offering) Ceremony on 22nd October 2017 at its main Sadao campus.

The college with the participation of the Thanh Hsiang temple, located in Penang, Malaysia organize this traditional Thai ritual ceremony every year. It is a very meaningful and educative event where the local lay Buddhist community can practice generating merits towards their local Sangha community.

As a reminder, this ceremony shows a strong reciprocal relationship and mutual dependency between the monastic community and lay community:

A New Student Orientation Program (NSOP) 2017 was hold at International Buddhist College (IBC), and it is a pleasure for us, the new students to receive Welcome Speech from the Most Venerable Dr. Wei Wu, the founder of IBC. Also, with the sharing of IBC's professors and staffs, we understand more about IBC campus life, where we not only study Buddha's teaching, but also live in the community of loving-kindness and compassion.

Wan Ching Yuen Hari Raya Party

On 25th June, the first day of the Hari Raya Puasa festival, a joint celebration between Than Hsiang Wan Ching Yuen and Sungai Ara Wan Ching Yuen was held for the Muslim staff of both Homes. It was a simple gathering but the atmosphere of festive mood was greatly felt and happily shared among all present. The presence of Than Hsiang Temple abbot Venerable Wei Wu together with Venerable Zhenru and Wan Ching Yuan’s committee representatives had added cheers to this special occasion.

Wan Ching Yuen Crafts Centre (WCYCC) was established with the objective to raise funds through charity sale of handmade crafts to support Wan Ching Yuen Welfare Centre and provide quality care to the residents.

A wide variety of quality crafts are produced by a team of caring, committed and compassionate members of WCYCC. Those who are interested to learn and share their craft skills are cordially invited to join WCYCC on every Tuesday ( except public holiday, 1st and 15th of the lunar month) from 9.30 am till 2.30pm.
