Than Hsiang Temple was recently graced with the presence of Ven. Yifa, Abbess of the Fo Guang Shan, Boston, USA, who came to gave a dharma lecture on the ‘Humanistic Buddhist View on Living and Dying’. The dharma talk was held at about 8:00pm in the Multipurpose Hall located on the 5th floor of Than Hsiang, and was conducted in English.

More than a hundred people came to attend the talk, which was jointly organized by BLIA Malaysia (Penang Branch), Than Hsiang Temple, Kwong Wah Yit Poh, Society of the Disabled Persons Penang and Penang Xiao-En Education.

On a hot humid day in Penang, a group of Than Hsiang ICT staff began preparations for a short trip to Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary(SBS) in Taiping, about an hour’s drive away. I had made prior arrangements with Sis. Lay Hoon, the Public Relations Manager of SBS, on the time and date for our meeting. We were looking forward to this trip, as we had seen the wonderful pictures of SBS, published in their newsletters.

Hundreds of people braved the pouring rain to enjoy the different varieties of food for sale at the Vege Food Fair held on the grounds of Than Hsiang Temple. The food fair was held as part of a fund-raising activity for the International Buddhist University Project (IBU). The people were spoilt for choices when selecting their purchases as stalls after stalls presented delicious lip-smacking 100% pure vegetarian food.

Following the official establishment of the Kalyana Mitra Home in Tanjung Bunga, the Kalyana Mitra Home located near the University Sains Malaysia (USM), was officially opened on 19th of July with blessings from Ven. Wei Wu. After the blessing ceremony, Ven. Wei Wu converse closely with the house members of the Kalyana Mitra Home.

A Maha Sanghikadana in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Buddhist Sangha Association (M.B.S.A.) was recently held in the Multipurpose Hall of Than Hsiang Temple.
